I also (even as someone without a kid) have to point out that whilst the information say breast is best for first 6 months at least, this does not mean that a mother has to be attached to a baby for the (first for baby) 6 months of their lives.

How it comes doesn't necessarily mean out of the breast. If you use pumps to express breast milk, how do you feed it to said baby without a bottle?? Bottles need to be sterilised properly whatever is put in it. Also when mothers donate extra breast milk to likes of special care that also comes in a bottle if the baby will take a bottle.

That's child development training for you, not personal experience! I remember being taught about sterilisation of bottles with Milton and to show us how safe it was, the teacher drank a bit of it o.O

Good grief some people really do not know when to give up do they ?

You seem to be missing the point somewhat

The OP is asking a specific question about cold water sterilisers
If they wanted to know about the health benefits and the financial benefits of breastfeeding they would have asked but as they have not I assume that they do not want that advice.

If I asked a question about one subject and someone insisted on keeping posting about an entirely different one I would be a bit miffed.

This forum would be somewhat less than it is if people only ever answered exactly the question that was asked. Given that the OP thanked my first post, I'm not sure why you or anyone else felt quite such as need to get up on your high horse not his/her behalf.
  • Thanks all, planning on breast feeding for a while and maybe moving to bottles later.

The reason I ask was went to a class last week and the midwife said about sterilisers and not making bottles up in advance. We have already bought an electric steriliser which is not used so may be able to return it. The consensus there was if you are using bottles go for the cold water method of sterilising. You always get some good answers on here so thought I would ask how it worked to be sure. It does seem to be the best method now. So back the electric one goes at the weekend I think.

The situation is exactly like iamamumtoone mentioned, getting prepared in advance.

But recognising the benefits of breast feeding this is the first step.

Sorry the thread moved into some disagreement.

Thanks all for your advice and help.
