How to change air vent for an extractor fan in bathroom?

Hi, hope someone can advise me please and recommend a product.

My bathroom has an air vent from the ceiling to the outdoors wall. It looks like a fan but no, it's just an airvent (new build). It's getting super steamy now after shower time so how do I change it for an extractor fan? It will need to be connected to electricity so what kind of kit do I need to buy? Do I need to call in an electrician to install it?

I've had a browse on the screwfix website but so unsure...

Thanks!

You need an electrician as understandable any electric in a bathroom has to be done safely, dont forget there might be some mess chasing in cable into plaster and also making a hole in wall for extractor fan. Fans aren't that expensive its the labour and a bit for materials that cost most

If its a newbuild then the bathroom MUST have an extract fan - Part F Building Regs. It sounds like they provided the route for the ducting but didn't fit the fan. Phone call in the morning!

Why on earth (from OPs description) would they need to make a hole in the wall?

The Op said they had a air vent so the hole "it's just an airvent " where air vent is may need enlarging for the fan and ducting or a new hole made some where else.

Thanks, keystone, will definitely read up on that and look into it. There is an extractor fan in the kitchen but in the bathroom just the air vent inside on the ceiling leading to the outside.

Yes, I have the full ducting!

OK so we read it differently then. Happens. I read it that OP has provision for a duct to be run from the ceiling over the top to the outside world for the installation of an in-line fan.

However, whether you are right or I am right it doesn't change the fact that, as a new build, it just doesn't comply with Part F as the OP has described it.

    Cheers.

Building Inspector shouldn't have missed it but on the other hand he may not and said to the builder "you are going to fit the fan aren't you?" and then on receiving a yes reply trusted them to do it. Builder then forgot.

Yeah I agree it seems strange no extractor fan in a new build I think is pretty standrad now even in new kitchen/bathrooms for someone to have a fan installed
