warning re winning holidays.....

Hi all

Just a warning - I do see quite a few people saying they have won a holiday comp, often with the link to the comp in IWIWIW. They often nowadays also post the dates they are going......(or it states the dates the hol must be taken in the TC).

Now, an unscrupulous person would fairly easily be able to contact the company to get the identity of the winner (or by other means) and it wouldn't be a far cry from finding out where the person lives.... bearing in mind you've just said when you will be away....

Not wanting to put a downer but I just wanted to highlight that sometimes I think a bit more caution is necessary and wise - especially where holidays are concerned. Just thought this might help someone xxx

  • That's a criminal mind you have there ;)

You're so right though, I've never even thought about that (not that I've won one :rotfl:) How easy it is for burglars today with the internet

    Good advice :A thank you
  • Thanks Softpad for your good advice.
BIG THANKS TO ALL WHO POST THE COMPETITIONS
  • Not related to this really but it always amazes me what people will put out in public, I run comedy nights so have a comedy profile on Facebook etc, the amount of times someone who I have never met - but has an interest in the nights- posts they are on holiday and also address listed in the Facebook profile is ridiculous

A few I have actually messaged to tell them but not really any of them change it

Having seen some unwise posters do just this recently, I thought my post needed a bump. Be more careful folks, stay safe x

Very good point, softpad... Maybe the best thing is for people to post AFTER they get back. That way we can enjoy a few holiday snaps as well :D

I totally agree, that's why I never post when I'm going on holiday, only after I get back! I wouldn't even log on to Facebook while we were away last year in case it gave away my location!

I thought this post needed a bump because I have seen quite a lot of people recently posting about when they are going on holiday etc. Please be careful folks, it really is quite unwise to post about these things before the fact.
