Woodburner Quotes In Northumberland

Options
A friend has just had quotes from Abbey Bridge Stoves and Biomass Ltd. in Jedburgh and John Willet's Fireplaces in Wrekenton to fit a woodburning stove.

The quotes have come in about £1,500 apart in price and I wondered if anyone had experience of either of these companies?

I have not had experience with these companies but I can give you an idea of cost if you let me know the size, the chimney length and any work to do with the fireplace etc.

I'm not sure what the stove was; but think costed at £800 with no variance to work required if a different stove was selected.

And the prices for the two works presuming the same amount of work?
  • If they are going to plaster the internal opening send them away, you should never plaster an opening with a stove in it.

It should be a cement render or something like vermiculite reeded panels or the like.

Depending on size of & thickness of granite hearth & basing it on an 800 stove you should be looking at approx £2-2200 supply & fit, or atleast in our area.

    Hope this helps.

Maybe theyve just put "plaster render finish opening" so they didnt have to get all technical and are actually using a fire proof plaster/render on the walls?
  • I think it is phrased that way to reduce technical terminology.

One quote was about £2,500 and the other about £4,000. Friend has clarified with cheaper and it sounds like work is similar.#

More expensive one has recommended a more expensive liner; the other has priced a cheaper one and said liner may not actually be needed due to house being 10 years old with class1 chimney.
