Quote didn't include as much as I thought

Options
Hi there I'm wondering if anyone can help I was given a quote for some timber preservation on the house I have just purchased amounting to £1273. This was on the home report in with the survey to be held on retention but as it turned out the surveyor ended up dropping the retention and the sale went ahead as normal however we were advised to get this work done as it might cause problems later on so rather than pay another firm for a survey which would have been £90 we decided to call on the company that had already done the survey and they agreed to come and do the work. So for £1273 I was thinking it must be quite a big job but they had completed the work in under 10 hours! When I queried this they said it would be reassessed but I received the invoice at the weekend and it was still the same price so I phoned them again today asking how much they charge an hour for a man and the guy said he didn't know it was the girl in the office that deals with it. I have requested a breakdown but surely they can't charge almost £100 an hour for labour can they?

Basicly they can charge whatever they like per hour. You agreed on the price they did the work. You should have asked for a breakdown on the work involved, and then decided if the price was fair?

I do understand you feel aggrieved in the job taking only 10hrs and costing over 1200, the only thing you can do is ask them again to review the invoice, and inform them that you will pay in full if you can both agree to the new invoice.

If they carried out the work you requested at the price you agreed I don't think you can complain too much after the event. If they didn't carry out the works you agreed with them then that's another matter.

Don't forget that the price includes materials - no idea how much timber preservation stuff costs, but if it's specialist it might be pricey...
