Hi everyone I don't know what to do at the moment so would like the opinionss of others. I have a car which is worth £900 however it is running out of tax and insurnance, needs a service and a small repair. That I estimate the total amount to £700 as my insurance is faily expensive too. I was contemplating selling the car to buy a scooter which would be much cheaper to insure. My income is about £280 per month as I only work part time. I am due to join the armed forces in 5 months so just need to survive in the mean time. Is it unrealistic of me to run a car? Would it be feasible to run a scooter cheap? As i would be a lot cheaper on insurance. I just want peoples opinions as I'm really unsure of what to do. Has anyone ever downgraded to a bike/scooter? Thanks bob

Do you need a car or scooter to get to work or socialise or could you rely on public transport? I couldn't contemplate spending almost all my wages on a car.0

Insurance is not necessarily cheaper, especially if you only have your CBT. Have you done some comparisons to see how much it would be?
There are a few recent threads about scooters, have a read.0 -
No I don't neccesarily need a scooter to get to work I can cycle or even walk. Its just easier with transport esspecially. Ah yea I did do a lot of enquiring on the insurance side it would be about £130 a year, a lot less than £550 for my car
thanks I will look for the threads 0 -
One other thing to bear in mind is that you might need to sell/SORN the car or moped when going away, phone up DVLA and insurance etc. Also while away and if not selling you might need to pay for storage. Just extra hassle.
I would go for a pushbike and enjoy free transport.0 -
Could you recover some of the costs from selling/scraping your car?0

I'm presuming you're single, with no wife or kids to worry about. Then some sort of scooter would be fine. If you didn't want to drop all the way to a bike, how about half way to an electric bike. No tax, insurance if you want to but not absolutely necessary. No petrol.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I went without a car for over a year recently and saved a lot of money. I did have occasional access to a car if needed. Work out how often you actually need a car There may be repairs or depreciation of the scooter. There may also be cancellation costs for five months insurance.0
