A question regarding oven-cleaning services...

Options
Hello! I thought I'd ask here....

I clean houses for money. I thought of doing an oven-cleaning business, as I know some people do them. Here's my question:

If you hired someone to clean your oven, exactly how clean would you expect them to get it? I mean, would you expect it to be completely, 100%, looks-like-it's-brand-new, clean or do you figure that if the oven hasn't been cleaned in years, there will simply be some stuff that won't shift, no matter what?

There are several franchises available for this sort of thing. Google has the answers. ;)

From what I know of it some specialist equipment is needed to get the job done in a reasonable time. Almost any dirt can be removed, I know I used to recondition them. ;)

I would expect it to be like new. If it wasn't I wouldn't pay.

What should I look for on Google? What sorts of specialist equipment?
I'm willing to scrub someone's oven with whatever is regularly commercially available, but I don't want to advertise what I do as a service that will make the oven perfect and like-new if that's not really feasible. As it is, I don't generally clean ovens when cleaning houses... for my hourly pay, most people would rather get more visible results! But, if someone wants me to clean their oven, I think I'd have to say, "I am totally willing to use an oven-cleaning product on your oven. I will scrub that thing for however many hours you want to pay me to do it, but there's no guarantee that your oven will be like new after several hours of cleaning."

I have a carpet shampooer, and I'm comfortable with telling people "I will shampoo your carpets with a good-quality machine and shampoo. I can't promise to remove stains and I can tell you now that if you've got pet urine in your carpets, nobody on Earth will be able to get that smell out." I just want to make sure people know what to expect!

Here's a few to look at...

    http://www.theovencleaningco.com/

    http://www.ovenu.co.uk

You may well find it's cheaper just to buy a franchise than muck about trying to put it all together yourself.

    Hope it helps.

This is sorta spooky, a few days ago I finally got around to writing this article about oven cleaning.

If you mean the catalytic panels Al then you will wreck them the first time that any chemical cleaner touches them and they ain't cheap to replace. I'd agree with you though in that they are not that brilliant.

I had someone come and clean my oven. Think it was about £80 and it was like a brand new oven. They took it apart and dipped it in trays in their van that i think was full of nasty chemicals! It was as shiny as a new pin!

I used one of these services. Cost £60 and was like new when they'd finished. It took the guy about 3 hours and he told me half the money goes to the franchise holder and half to him.

All the removable parts went into some heated liquid in the back of his van and came out sparkling.

I use Ovenclean....(Hi Silvercar, recognise you from Landlord forum!) to clean my rental properties...the ovens come up sparkly clean every time. Single oven, hob and extractor (with new filter) costs me £75 per pop...HOWEVER...I saw my ovenclean bloke a couple ofweeks ago andd he says the franchisers take most of what he earns and give him little support/training. He was very negative about them and has branched out into carpet cleaning/odd jobs etc because he can't make a living wage (In Berkshire!!).....he was even talking about selling the franchise and setting up his own oven cleaning business using his existing customer base....I'm sure there are arrangements in place with the franchise docs to expressly prohibit that, but hey!

I think the job he does on my tenant ovens is fab and without him I most certainly wouldn't be able to keep my properties as clean as they are...using someone elses dirty oven is just scabby!
