Hi, can anyone help. I was given a acer aspire 5810t a couple of months ago off my sister in law which is about 3/4 years old. i use it mainly for internet emails shopping and internet banking. When i got it it was very fast but sinnce my 18yr old son started using it, it slowed right down. He was not closing it down properly and using it for facebook, online gambling sites which he downloded and then i found !!!!!! on it so told him not to use it. To cut a long story short i started having problems, (very slow, would not turn off , screen would flash etc) then i went to use it last week and it would not turn on properly start up screen not on just flashing from grey and white after repeatedly turning on start up screen comes on but screen is red unless i tilt it. i know nothing about technical terms of pc's when i got it on it said it could not start properly but gave me options to restore it to factory settingsii think this is what i pressed) i have lost everything what was on it when it was given to me but that is not the main problem every time i turn it on same problems repeatedly turning on/and off for flashing to stop then i get red screen then i tilt it to get normal picture use it turn it off then same thing again anyone know what it could be screen broke? hardware? software? dropped maybe? could anyone tell me in plain english cos dont really understand computer tech thanks or if anyone knows any cheap repairers in newcastle upon tyne area? ps it is still very slow too

Any infections which your son had downloaded would have been removed by the Factory Restore (which also wipes all your data and aftermarket software, as you found out).
So it's going to be a hardware issue.
Plugging in an external monitor will tell you if the screen has failed or not. It could be the inverter, graphics chip, or various hardware issues. No free lunch, and no free laptop
