Has anyone had the same problem as I currently have ?
When creating spreadsheets with these two free programs - it appears impossible to get Kingsoft to "hold" the £'s in a column.

What I am trying to do is create a spreadsheet of amounts of money - then add them up at the end - no problem with the addition - but when I try to add a £ sign to the front of each figure - it initially works - but when saved and reopened - it gives a "」"

As in....

」519.20
」204.90
」286.00
」248.89
」1,368.00
」287.00
」665.00
」214.72
」259.70
total
」4,053.41

And spreadsheets composed in Kingsoft won't open in Openoffice !!

From what i've read it's a problem with Kingsoft software.

The font it's using might not be a standard one so the sign for "£" in Kingsoft might be different in other programs.

so a "£" in Open office comes out as "」" in Kingsoft.

Do you need to use Kingsoft?

No - I just thought that it may be more up to date than Openoffice .....

Neither try LibreOffice here which is still being developed.

OpenOffice is still being developed. Version 4 was released a few weeks ago.

Libre Office is seemed to be the more "cutting edge" development wise than Open Office, which tends to take a slower approach to it's development cycle.
