Nationwide card reader

If I got a new debit card because the old one was misplaced but then found, will I be able to use the misplaced then found debit card in the card reader for online banking?

I know I could try it but I am worried it will screw things up and I would then have to get another new card and even a new card reader.

That way when I wanted to access my online banking I wouldn't have to look for my wallet each time.

    If I read your post correctly you wish to try a ruse to get more than one card linked to the same account. I very much doubt that will work.

    If they sent you a new card, they will have cancelled the old one. So, that's the first thing.

    The second thing is that you can use the same card reader for multiple cards. My wife has 2 Natwest personal accounts and I recently opened a business account. The cards work in either of the readers.

    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?
  • The card reader isn't linked to an account, I have one from nationwide and one from Smile (co-op) and use both readers for both accounts depending on where I am when I use the online banking.

    You dont need to look for your wallet each time, you can set up memorable data and a passcode and log in with that each time. Only for certain things do you need the card/reader combination.

    Card readers are interchangable, many even work across different banks as they are virtually all made by the same company. My Natwest and Nationwide work with each others cards and websites.

    Your old card will still work in the reader but the website most likely will reject the codes it generates once you have used the new card for the first time - or at least this was how it was with my Barclays online banking

    I think some of the people replying are getting hold of the wrong end of the stick.

    I want to use 2 nationwide cards, one a replacement and the old card which I had had replaced then found, in one reader to save me looking for my wallet everytime I want to log into my online account.

    When I put my card into the reader it says

    CHECKING

    then

    SELECT FUNCTION

    then

    ENTER PIN.

    nothing about card numbers.

    I just tried the old card after using the new card a couple of times and it worked but I've only done it once so I will see how it goes the next time.

    Nothing blew up.:eek:

    Nationwide might get suspicious if I log into my account a few times a day, or does that not raise any flags?

    Anyone know how many times a day you can log into your online account before Nationwide think something dodgy is going on?

    You don't need your card reader to log in. And you can't use a card that you reported lost.

    I logged into my Nationwide account using my memorable data and passnumber to transfer my £1000 to the Halifax and back again and it wouldn't let me transfer the £1000 out using my memorable data, I had to use my card reader.
    Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:

    My Nationwide login page says insert card **** **** **** nnnn into the card reader, nnnn being the last 4 digits

    Putting a different card into the card reader will probably check that the PIN on that card is correct and generate a code - but will it work online?

    No it won't. If the system believes you've got two valid cards, it says "Insert card {MENU} into the card reader", and you pick the card you're using on the drop-down menu.

    This happens when they send a new card to replace an old one that's expiring - there's an overlap when both cards work. It also happens when you've got two debit card or cash card accounts.
