Some help/advice please...

Hi,

As you can see i'm a new poster, but have used this site several times given the valuable information you all provide.

Essentially, I've checked my credit report and it says it's, poor, which to be honest I was expecting. However, there are 2 defaults on there which i'm not sure of.

Both are HSBC, one is a current account and next to it, it says, 'satisfied'...should it still be marked as a default?

The other one is a loan from HSBC. I took the loan out in 2004 over a period of 6 years, I moved, let them know my new address and phoned to make a payment in December 2009 as i'd missed one through changing banks. They said they couldn't find me on their system, despite giving all my details etc I thought no more of it, i've had no chase up letters, nothing...and just, probably foolishly, thought i'd got away with this one. Should I do anything on there, and how long before that is removed as it says they've tried contacting me at my previous address despite them knowing i've not been there for the past 4 years?

Sorry for this being longwinded.

Hope someone can help!

Thanks

A settled/satisfied default is still a default, so remains recorded as one.

HSBC may have been partly at fault with the other one, but honestly you should have persisted in trying to sort it. Ignoring it made it inevitable it would come back to bite you on the bum at some point.

May be worth putting a complaint into to HSBC and referring to the FOS if you still think their handling was unfair. Can't do any harm to try. But I am doubtful whether it would be found in your favour as it is partly your fault.

  • Thanks for that, in all honesty, i'm in a position to pay what they're saying is owed now, so it's just a case of getting my backside in gear and sorting it out.

I'm unsure why my current account one had a default on it though, that account was closed many years ago and had a small overdraft on it, which was paid back.

    Thanks again though.

Well, if you don't think the current account/overdraft should have been a default, then obviously you dispute it.
