Cut up licence- do I return counterpart?

My Father's renewed his driving licence online and has cut his old one up ready to post back to them, but I'm sure he has to send the paper counterpart with it, he said he didn't see anything online about that. I've just had a look on the DVLA site but can't find any info. Can anyone just confirm what exactly he sends back.

Not too sure about the online process but when I did it via the post office I had to hand over both the license and counterpart.

I'd recommend taking a photocopy before sending it so you can check the entitlements are the same on the new one.
  • I never even bothered sending mine back, haven't heard anything back from them.

Seeing as how the DVLA have an 8 week backlog I hope that no-one needs to see it in the meantime.

The two parts are part of one licence and belong together. You should return the counterpart to DVLA.

Thanks for the replies, will post both back, although I've just noticed it isn't a freepost address. Makes you wonder what happens if you don't bother sending back!

I know many people who have all of their photocard licences, think the DVLA just dont bother to chase people who dont send back.

    Save yourself the postage?
