DMP repaid early and defaults

Hi

I am new here and wondering if anyone can help. In 2010 I entered in to a debt management plan through CCCS with six creditors. All but one of the creditors froze all interest and charges on the accounts and I repaid the set amount to them every month. After approximately 9 months in the DMP, I discovered that the one account that hadn't frozen interest and charges was charging more per month interest than I was repaying. As a result, I took out a loan from my parents and repaid all six accounts in full after 11 months in the DMP.

I have since encountered two problems, both with Natwest.

1. I had an overdraft balance in the DMP with Natwest which I paid off in full in July 2011. They had not charged me interest during my entire time in the DMP yet the month I paid off the balance in full they charged me £32 interest (which I was unaware of) and as such did not pay back until two months later when I received a statement. As I had not paid the agreed amount for two months, they have added a default to my account to the sum of £32.

2. I had an outstanding credit card balance with Natwest of £468 when I entered the DMP. All the other creditors (including Natwest for the overdraft) have got on my credit file that I made an arrangement for paying yet on this one it has got a default from Oct 2010 to when I settled the account in July 2011.

I am considering writing to Natwest to try and get these removed but I am unsure how to approach this as there are two separate defaults with the same bank. Can anyone provide any help on how to approach this? Should I treat it as two separate appeals as one is a credit card and one is an overdraft or shall I treat it as one appeal and ask them to remove both?

As far as I can remember, I did not receive a notice about the default for £32 but as I was in a DMP I think I was given one at the start so not sure where I stand if I went down the incorrect paperwork route. I was planning to try to the sympathy route as the defaults are less than £500.

If anyone could provide some help I would be really grateful.

Thanks

On the overdraft what had they been recording on your credit file up until the default?

What was the date of the default? When did you pay off the main balance of the overdraft?

Regarding 2 the entry does sound like it is fair and I think you are unlikely to get it changed, but very occasionally people do, so it could be worth contacting them and seeing if they will remove it as a goodwill gesture given the short duration of your DMP. Probably a long shot but could be worth it.

  • They do not have to send a letter for a defualt on an overdraft as its not covered by the same terms. Same thing hapened to me.

Write to them and try the good will gesture aproach.
