When to get a Solicitor...?

Hi peeps.
I recently had an offer on my house through Housenetwork, which I accepted.
Currently I am looking at moving to Guildford, which is expensive and you get depressingly little for your money, or a nice house in an area with abandoned vehicles and rough looking pubs.
Anyway - my buyer is keen for me to get a solicitor soon but I'm still looking and theres a (small) chance I might disillusioned and put my quest for a house on hold. My buyer is keen to get a move on as her buyer wants to complete by the end of august.
Since I have not seen any houses I have liked yet should I get a solicitor now or tell my buyers politely wait till I see a place I like?
There is a small chance I might get fed up of looking and even stay at my current home - I am not gonna be rushed into paying for fees if I am not going to move.
Should I get a solicitor yet?

No you shouldn't. It is only fair that neither of you spend any money until you are sure that you are commited to the deal. You must also not allow her survey to be carried out until you are sure.
Your buyer needs to be told, straight away, that end of August is a pipedream. She'd be very lucky even if you had already found somewhere.
You also need to consider whether it is fair to keep her hanging like this at all. It sounds like you're not going to find what you want for the money. You either need to re-address your expectations or give up entirely if the choice is as bad as you describe.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thanks for the advice - I politely told my EA to tell my buyers that I wont get a solicitor until I have found a house I like.
Then a day later my buyer pulls out due to "personal differences". Very strange. I am wondering if selling their house on time is more important than buying mine. Very gald I did`nt bother to get a solicitor!

I don't think that's strange, I think it's inevitable. They have a buyer and they want to move. If they put it all on hold to suit you then their buyer is likely to pull out. They'd be back to square one, no buyer and probably no house to buy. You really shouln't be marketing your house if you're unsure about whether or not you want to move IMO. It's a stressful enough process without being messed around further.Addicted to Facebook

I dont think I`m messing them about - I think they have to be realistic how long it will take. They only gave us 2 weeks to look so if anything they should not have put an offer on if they are in such a rush. If I played the game their way I would have had to rush out and buy a property I didn`t like and perhaps waste money on fees.
I think as doozergirl said - August was NOT going to happen. They should sell first then look for a house if they are in a rush.
I'm 99% certain I will move. But moving house is not like death and taxes

They are obviously the wrong buyers for you then I guess. I think 2 weeks to find somewhere is quite generous. We lost 2 buyers for various reasons before selling to the 3rd. On all 3 occasions we had an eye on the market and had a house or two in mind - the first 2 occasions we sold we put an offer in on another house within an hour. The 3rd time we sold we found the house we wanted was under offer, so looked around a few houses and put an offer in on somewhere within 2 days. We completed in 12 weeks (but 2 of those weeks everyone was closed for Christmas) and it was quite a complicated chain with 2 divorces (so splitting into several mini chains) and one who had to sell two houses simultaneously (so two chains coming together). Your buyers are not unreasonable to think the end of August is a target date - it is 10 weeks away.Addicted to Facebook

Thanks.
Perhaps next time I should not be too fussy. Just last time I spoke to my buyers they mentioned to us not to rush too much and perhaps the dealine could be pushed back to september.I probably relaxed too much.0 -
I managed to speak to the couple who were the buyers for my home. It turns out they decided they want an extra child and the place is not big enough for them. Nothing to do with the timing.
A little annoyed - as they were putting pressure on me to get a solictor. Then suddenly pull out? I could have wasted some money here.
Oh well.0
