I'm the same though my stress level reduces at each stage on the day, but I'm not fully 'I am on holiday' until the plane is in the air...I have no fear of flying, I have a lot of fear of things going wrong up to that point. I am pretty much in a constant state of 'omg what if?' stress...my long-suffering husband has learned that it's just the way I am and no amount of reasoning with me will make any difference (it will just annoy me)
We always stay at an airport hotel the night before now - not even just early morning departures (we haven't had any evening flights in recent memory, always depart by 11 am)...I cannot remember the last time we travelled to the airport on the day of the flight but it has been many years...and we use Virgin's twilight check-in when we fly from Gatwick so on the morning of the flight we can skip the queues at check-in and go straight to security.
It does mean there is a sort of pre-holiday feel the night before the flight...we're in a hotel, have a meal there or nearby...but I still don't feel like I'm on holiday until we're in the air. And really not fully until we're in the hotel the other end and all the travel is done.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

I can be a bit like that. I also get travel sick which doesn't help so if we have an early flight even though were only 30mins from LHR and 50 from gatwick we'll stay at a hotel normally just so I can get a bit of extra sleep and not worry about traffic on the motor way and if I'm tired or stressed I get sicker easier. All this talk of people having cooked breakfasts and drinking before getting on the plane is like a nightmare to me lol! I wish I could be like that.
Until we leave the house I'm in a panic packing & checking so its best for me we get to the airport hotel ASAP!
But once were through security I tend to relax. Unless were going long haul with connecting flights then I feel better once were on the 2nd flight!
DH meanwhile is completely oblivious to the entire thing, he rarely even knows which flight were on or with what airline as I book it all, and he's totally relaxed!0 -

We always book an early flight, and used to mess about getting the midnight ferry, then getting a taxi, hanging round the airport for 4 hours before check in.
NOW, we get off the catamaran and travel up to LGW by train. Once at Gatwick, we check our cases in, go to one of the pubs in the airport and get our dinner, then make our way to Travelodge central. Have a good nights sleep and then go and get some breakfast at the airport, buy our lunch to take on board, and have quick wander round whilst waiting for boarding. Love it!
Exactly what we do, except our ferry trip is a bit shorter, from Gosport to Pompey. And straight into Pompey Harbour train station.
Less than 6 weeks to our next trip, and an overnight at Gatwick Central Travelodge. It's worth pre-booking dinner there too @ £9.95 for 2 courses + a pint.0 -

Ditto...while I don't get travel sick as such I'm a bag of nerves so can't eat much and the thought of a full English makes me queasy even now...then again the thought of a big meal before getting on a plane at all isn't really something I would consider. But once were through security I tend to relax.
I am about 80% relaxed after security, but not fully...on the plane goes to about 90%...in the air is 100%. My very go-with-the-flow hubby announces each time we tick off a step in the process with 'now we've done X...stress check?'Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
End of another day in paradise.0
