Housing benefit : Bank statement Vs cash point slip acceptance ?

Hi
I have problem with the evidence requirement for completing a HB pack . They want a bank statement that i am comfortable with strangers going through my statement
Why don't they accept cash point slips ? The banks are not going to lie , so what is the problem ?
I've seen another thread on this topic and the lady/guy provided a cashpoint slip. It wasn't easy .
I spoke to the benefit people 30 minutes ago and he told me it's not against the law but discouraging about the payslip.
Is there anything wrong in not trusting the government with sensitive info?
What do they look for in the bank statement
Why don't they accept cash point slip ?
You have to lose something private to get something public in this country ?

Could you not supply the bank statement with any sensitive information that won't affect your claim redacted?0

They ask for the full statement so they will know if you have any other finances coming in.
If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about.0 -

Because it does not show all transactions. They request a bank statement in order to check thoroughly the comings and going's in your account, such as income, benefits, outgoing's... AND also to see bank transfers to other accounts you may have that you may not have told them about!
You can delete sensitive information you do not want them to see, but they may question it!

If anybody has these then it would be silly on their part to actually transfer money across knowing that it would be shown on the statement.
It would be far better if they withdrew it in cash and paid it in to the other account. There would be no need for them to leave the bank counter either.
All that would be shown on the disclosed account is a cash withdrawal or a cash deposit - source and reason unkown.
Some people are simply asking for trouble by doing what you suggest they may have done.0 -

No some people are simply asking for trouble if they do what you suggest, hiding money to maximise any entitlement to benefits....It's called fraud, but nice to see you advocate stealing from the tax payer.
OP it's muc better being transparent with the HB office from the start, things can and do come back to bite people on their backsides.0 -
If you are wanting public money then you have to provide the information requested, in the form that is acceptable.
If you don't want to provide the information then don't claim the benefit.0 -

I never said that they should do it, I was only pointing out the method that they could use if that is what they wanted to do.
I don't agree with fraud, but I am not blind to the fact that it goes on despite what you and I think.
I was just explaining that if someone wanted to do what the poster suggested, they would be daft to do it that way.
To be honest I don't care what anybody does. If they get caught then that is their fault - if they get away with it, good luck to them. My life does not revolve around what other people do in their lives - I have more important things to think about - my family for one!0 -
You have to provide bank statements for ALL accounts that you hold, not just your current account, and data matching is used to identify fraudulent claims where bank accounts are not declared.

That can only happen if (a) the undisclosed account was ever used to support an application for credit and more likely (b) if the interest credited on the account is sufficiently high enough to trigger an automatic notification to both HMRC and Experian in particular.
Obviously with (a) it is self explanatory whilst with (b) most people with these sorts of accounts don't have it in an interest bearing one!0 -

Data Matching finds all accounts interest bearing or not. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0
