uk passport renewal on line

Hi.
Has anyone filled in a passport renewal on line and assumed, as I did, that when asked for card details this was to pay for the passport charge. Only to discover later that it was a £45 charge for the company to complete the form on line for you? How can I get this charge back?
Any tips and help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Read the T&C of the site in question and they should tell you how/if you can get a refund for cancelling.
  • tbh I think you will have to put this one down to expereince......I'm guessing you googled passport application and it was the first on the list?

The sort of company you've been had by also 'help' with things like driving licences.

As much as I hate it for anything like this I was go first to directgov or if it doesn't have .gov.uk at the end of the web address I don't even load the site

I would check the T&Cs to see what they say about refunds.
They may deduct an admin fee but any refund would be better than nothing.

As mountainofdebt says, it's not just passports and driving tests.

You need to be careful if applying for EHIC or ESTA too.

Was it the official website for renewals eg direct.gov ? If not then it wasn't the correct site.

Tax disc is also done via direct.gov, the ehic card is also done via the nhs and the land registry site is via the correct site (cant think what it is) but theres a fake 1 out there.
