Ds (17) left full time education 31st May - 5th year in Scotland, the school said they could not provide any suitable further education for him and they also believe college isn't the place for him either.
Just to point out that Ds was in main stream education, he has autism and learning difficulties.
Since he left full time education I have been helping him apply for jobs we have done all the supermarkets in the area, he maybe autistic but he is more than capable of stacking shelves etc. Loud noises can annoy him but he said he would have to suck it up to get a job. Sadly no one wants him. Applied to tesco, asda, morrisons, lidl, porter jobs at the local hospital, another portering job at a hotel, thorntons, argos. He did have one positive experience with Aldi they liked his CV and phoned him for an interview, it didn't go any further. Yes he does have some communication difficulties, however he just wants to be given a chance to so others what he can do, not what he can't.
Since leaving school oh the irony
he has become a peer mentor helping other adults with learning difficulties. He helps them with basic computer skills, accessing emails etc. He is also registered with careers Scotland and a employment agency that help people with disabilities get into employment but at this moment in time, I'm not seeing what benefit they are to my Ds.
Now to the point! child benefit and child tax credit 20 week run on will be ending shortly IIRC the 14th October is the last payable date. Now if Ds hasn't been able to get employment by then what benefit should he apply for?
With JSA would he be expected to apply for say 10 jobs per day, I find it hard enough finding at least 1 job per week for him. Or should he apply for ESA, but he
Isn't too sick or what I would call too disabled not to work. Just a helping hand needed.

If he claims ESA then he can still apply to FE. There are many avenues like princess trust and other courses to build his suitability.
I have many students with severe ASD who get 1:1 support so I'd challenge the college, however, this is irrelevant to ESA as ESA or TC/CB is not a consideration for college support, it's needs based not benefit.
They get taxis, 1:1 support, lap top, software and a mentor,
If education is what you want then look further and I'm happy to help if necessary0
