Hi,
I am doing the house renovation in stages and as part of it looking to install stair case for loft conversion. I got a below quote from my local carpenter. It need to cut the ceiling and make the gap wide by 6 inches, and then install the new stairs. Following is the quote given
13 steps custom made stair case with 31mm stair threads, 12mm rise and 2ft 7" wide pine softwood stairs. softwood pine Georgian spindles.
Total cost including delivery & fitting is 1960£.
Could you please let me know whether the above quote is reasonable?
Thanks
Ra

Get a second/third/fourth quote for comparison.
I've never had something like that done so cannot really comment on it's appropriateness.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

This. The best way to find whether a quote is reasonable is to get at least 2 others.
It sounds reasonable to me but I don't know the job or the quality of work that they'll do. Get more quotes.0 -
handrail not mentioned?
is it just a straight flight?
newel posts?
it the quote VAT inclusive.
does sound quite a bit for a very basic flight, could get the same thing for about half the cost if factory made, then find your own fitters.
Depends really if you can get what you want from a larger supplier, there is a few online self quote tools, just search for them.
£620 is the quote I can get for what you kind of describe.0 -
Thanks for the feedback. I had 2 other quotes one using mdf instead of plywood is 3500(including fitting & vat) and the other one only delivery 1700£ without fitting.
Handrails are there with spindles.
Winder style 2 stairs and then bend to right. the price is including VAT.
Because of height adjustment(loft) I cannot go for factory made. I tried stair plan initially and there quote was 1600£ just for winder stairs with oak spindles for delivery. Fitting was another 600£.
After getting 2 other quotes the above quote 1960£ looks reasonable and I am planning go with it. Fingers crossed on end result.0
