Tco Won't Let Me Cancel My Claim! Help!

THIS MIGHT SOUND LIKE A STRANGE ONE BUT WE ARE TRYING TO CANCEL OUR TAX CREDITS CLAIM AND THE TAX CREDITS OFFICE WON'T LET US!
WE HAVE SUFFERED LIKE MOST FROM THE MISTAKES OF THE TAX CREDITS OFFICE AND HAD TO REPAY THOUSANDS TO THEM (WE BELIEVE DUE TO THEIR MISTAKES)

WE NOW GET AROUND £40 A MONTH FROM THEM AND FEEL IT IS NOT WORTH GETTING THIS MONEY AS WE BELIEVE THEY WILL JUST DECIDE TO CLAIM IT BACK IN THE FUTURE LEAVING US IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE. THE AMOUNT OF STRESS THESE RECLAIMS OF OVERPAYMENTS HAS PUT ON MY FAMILY IS UNACCEPTABLE AND WE DON'T WANT THE WORRY EVERYTIME WE GET A LETTER FROM TCO

I HAVE CONTACTED TCO AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO WAY TO CANCEL A CLAIM ONCE IT IS AWARDED, EVEN THOUGH WE DON'T WANT THE MONEY AND A LOT OF PEOPLE COULD USE IT ELSEWHERE.
THEY ADVISED I INFORM THEM OF A FAMILY BREAKDOWN OR A FALSE EARNING FIGURE SO THE CLAIM WOULD BE CANCELLED BUT I BELIEVE THIS TO BE FRAUD THAT WOULD PROBABLY LAND US IN EVEN MORE OF A MESS AT A LATER DATE.

i EVEN GOT MY LOCAL M.P. TO CONTACT THEM ON MY BEHALF BUT THEY STILL WON'T BUDGE. IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME WITH ANY IDEAS OF HOW TO CANCEL A CLAIM PLEASE LET ME KNOW! WE ARE CONSIDERING CONTACTING THE NATIONAL MEDIA TO TRY AND EMBARRAS TCO OR GOVERNMENT INTO BACKING DOWN BUT ONLY AS A LAST RESORT AS WE ARE NOT THE TYPE FOR STUPID PUBLICITY.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

    Hello,

Contacting the media etc wont help, cant give exact details at the moment (on holiday from work), but their is a legality that means TCO cannot end the claim as the money is for your child. Will check out the legal impilications for you to make it abit clearer. In the meantime, the only way to end your claim is what you have already been advised of (report a household breakdown/increase annual income).

    Regards,

Can't you just put all of the TC funds you recieve into a seperate bank account?

Then, if you have to repay it, you can just send it back to them.

Hotblu is correct, TCO are unable by law to cancel a claim for Tax Credits. There are workarounds - such as informing of a household breakdown - but then obviously any overpayment cannot be recovered by reducing an existing claim and they'll contact you about paying the overpayment directly if your claim is ended.

Morglin's suggestion of a satellite account purely for TCs is imo the best option - these days you can even 'name' your sub bank accounts so they come through easily identifiable.

The only other thing I can think to overcome this silly dilemma is for you to inform them that you want your bank account details removed from their system and that they now have to send the payments weekly by postal giro.

Then just keep the postal giros (unopened if you like) in a drawer. A nuisance but TC system will not show at the end of the year that you didn't claim any of the 'entitilement'.
    Integrity is a dying art!:p

And, if they DON'T reclaim the money, you have a nice little nest egg at the end.
