1.4L diesels can vary significantly in terms of power and torque, so you may want to be a little more specific?0

I am thinking of a Toyota auris but will be spending a lot of time on motorways, but restricted what I can get

Also weight. I've had a C3 mk1 1.4 hdi as a courtesy car a few times years ago and it was great on the motorway as it weighs about the same as a sack of spuds. Although it had 92 BHP which wasn't bad back then for a diesel 1.4.0

My 2004 Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi cruises quite happily at 70 mph.
And I still get 52.5 mpg, £30 VED and comprehensive insurance for less than £200.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

Do you find it's enough power or do you wish you had a bigger engine? My 2004 Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi cruises quite happily at 70 mph.

I suspect the OP is on about overtaking ability rather than just raw cruising speed, I remember having to drive to Brentwood for a meeting in a Rover 214, whilst it could do motorway speeds, it struggled to pass lorries and coaches when required.0 -
1.4 diesel Yaris, and it's absolutely fine.import this0

Depends what kind of Mileage.... Usually a 1.4 Tdi is a small car i.e 206 Lupo Polo etc... Doing Mega Miles In one of them for me would be a No No... Lifes too short to cramped in a Box rattling up and down the country...0

Heavier cars like the C5 manage perfectly well with 1.6 Diesels, however don't expect a small turbocharged engine to pull your face out of shape if you let the revs drop below those required for adequate air intake.
Auris is OK, its not particularly heavy, or you could find a T180 which would be a bit better.0
