First time self catering - what do I need to take?

Whether self catering or b'n'b we use a list which has grown over the years to include a 3-way mains plug adapter and a 3 metre main extension lead. Sockets are often not plentiful enough for all the chargers etc and may not be near where wife needs them for things like hair dryers and straighteners. The 3-way adapter also comes in useful sometimes in farmhouse b'n'bs if sockets are very close to the floor. Saves straining cables.
We also take at least one LED battery-powered light as power cuts can be fairly frequent in rural Scotland during bad weather. They live on the bedside cabinets at home and get tested monthly same as the smoke & carbon monoxide alarm, which incidentally also comes on holiday as most places only have smoke alarms fitted.
Lastly....wherever you stay, always test the fitted smoke alarm soon after you arrive.
Never assume it has been tested !Never trust a financial institution.
