Liquidation auctions *rant*

Is anyone else getting hacked off with the way these are getting lately?

I mainly deal in racking and storage and I swear I just watched three lots of storage tubs go for more than I could buy them in Tesco for, and that's before fees.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Indeed, I guess lots of people assume auction=bargain. I bet they don't make that mistake twice.

That said, being upset that other bidders wanted to pay more than you could appear a teensy bit sour grapesy...that you couldn't buy and make a profit on something they maybe thought they could? Maybe they have better/stupider outlets, or maybe they also bought a load of rubbish at the auction and needed the tubs to get it home ;-)

I know what you mean though - at the moment a tech liquidator is listing several bulk loads of terrible nobrand mobiles for about what after shipping and tax you can pay on Amazon, singly, with warranty. I guess some people again just jump at the 'bargain', but it's a pretty dreadful bargain.

Fair point, I'm beginning to think the money's in buying in the shops and selling in the auctions.

Hey, give it a go, just scrape the Tesco stickers off and print up your own sales/merchandising slip with a high RRP to accidentally slip into the load for eagle-eyed buyers to jump on ;)

There has always been lunatics at auctions who display the symptoms of auction fever.
Doesnt matter what type of auction it is, I have seen all sorts of stupid bidding including those who bid against themselvles.

The local, monthly, clearance auction (which still includes the Police Lost and Found) has degenerated into a joke. It is populated now by people who seem to think, having seen an episode of "Baggage Battles" or whatever that there is gold in every taped-up box. One dealer who has a shop in Glasgow sends a huge amount of stuff, straight from China, still in the boxes that he couldn't possibly sell in the toolshop and they are scooped up every month by eager buyers. The prices they pay, they could get far superior tools in B&Q retail for less money.

Sounds like a viable market to me, put some rubbish into that auction quick!
