Gloss finish on kitchen units

Hi,
I am getting a new Howdens kitchen fitted next month.
I just want plain white doors, but I do like the look of the gloss doors. If you have gloss doors, how do they wear? Are they easy to wipe down without leaving streaks etc. You can tell I am a lazy bint!

My last kitchen was Ikea with Applad white doors and they fared really well.

I have cream gloss and they are great. I admit I don't check for streaks though....if they are clean that is me done.
  • Thanks for that, if you have to check for streaks they are not there as far as I am concerned :)

Gloss doors are for showrooms and people that dont use their kitchens.

Used to get tons of complaints from people who find their glossy worktops scratched after a week.
Yes sliding boxes and pans/kettle will scratch them.

  • Mmmm yes, we use our kitchen a lot. Lots of cooking goes on in our house.

    Thanks.

She was asking about doors not work tops.
Gloss doors are fine. I clean mine with a product called Vuplex which is great.. But i would never recommend gloss work tops.

    John..
  • I have gloss white, looks OK to me after a wipe down; I generally use sugar-soap solution for degreasing in the kitchen.

Gloss doors are fine, easier to clean than matt and we have six people living here so we do a lot of cooking too. My work tops are granite, gloss granite too and cleaned with the proper cleaner they look great.
  • My parent have gloss, three people in the house and other than the odd handprint from where someone has pushed the door closed rather than used the handle you never notice any streaks or marks on them. I have a matt black kitchen and everything shows on it. I gave up worrying about it after about a month but it does need a serious clean if I have been using icing sugar as the cupboard doors seem to attract it and turn them a lovely shade of grey!

I think darker coloured gloss doors might show streaks - but white, no. I only really notice streaks when they happen to be coffee coloured (we're clumsy).
