"I admire those men who know about mathematics,
Who calculate and cipher and compute.
I used to think that logarithms were things that scuttled about in attics
And surds were little flowers with square roots.
What boots it?" Jake ThackrayI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Hated maths, really, really rubbish at it too. It didn't help that my maths school life consisted of a new teacher every week and no one ever learnt anything, half the class flunked for the year we were getting screwed about.
On the other hand, I always flourished at languages and English in particular, and I now work in a job which is 100% language based 0% maths. Suits me
I get cold sweats thinking about it... 0 -
Fractions and algebra... twas a total waste of time trying to teach me as my head would just switch off.
I loved languages though. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Maths only becomes interesting when they drop the silly little concepts... like numbers.
It is a lot more elegant when you get to advanced quantum equations. Its over 20 years now, but I can still remember how good it felt to solve Schrodinger's wave equation

I do that before breakfast, every morning. Without fail.

Maths homework isn't too tricky in our hous, if my 9 year old gets stuck she phones her brother who is in his 2nd year of a maths degree and is delighted to show off in front of his house mates how clever he is!
What did terrify me is this weeks challenge "Create your own Archimboldo portrait using seasonal fruit and vegetables. You might want to create it for real out of actual fruit and veg and take a photo. We can't wait to see the results!" What on earth??0 -
