Food on a budget?

  • Hi, we decided to get married at 4 pm and have a buffet at 6 pm which worked for us, especially as we didn't have any additional guests for the evening do. We agreed £30 per head with the venue and asked them to come up with a menu based on what we liked - so we had a couple of starter items, carved meats and a full poached salmon, prawn skewers, chicken skewers, veggie quiche and lots of different salads and extras - coleslaw, green salad, red onion and tomato type of things. As we were having a marquee, we couldn't have a sit down hot meal as the cost of hiring the catering equipment would have been astronomical! We did include a couple of portions of chips for the children though, which the hotel kindly walked over from their kitchen given the small number.

For dessert - we had a cheeseboard with biscuits. This was then moved to a different table when the dancing started so that it could be left out for people to pick at over the course of the evening. Our wedding cake lower tier was then cut up and placed on the same table so that guests could have that later in the evening when the band were having a break. There was no waste and all our guests commented about the quality of the food.

    HTH - good luck!
