Food on a budget?

Options
Looking for some food ideas on a budget. We have a venue, we have to use their food so no chance of bring your own or any of that but I'm looking for some meal ideas that we can suggest to the venue that'll be filling enough but won't cost the earth.

Our venue is really flexible and will do pretty much whatever we want. We will be having a meal around 5pm and then will need an evening buffet/something foody.

Any good ideas?

Thanks x

I'd skip the 5pm meal and just have the evening buffet...just let the invitees know there will be no main meal and to eat something beforehand if they require a lot of food...tell them there'll be a late buffet with plenty of food to choose from.

I wouldn't have a meal at 5 of you're having an evening buffett.

We married at 4, had drinks and nibbles after, then a hot a buffet at 8.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Can you have wedding cake as dessert, so not needing to have any other desserts?
  • Could you organise your own dessert table for the evening? We're doing that and saving hundreds coz that way we don't need to provide so much xxx
    Debt free finally :j

  • For our buffet we are going to look at hot beef sandwhiches, I don't think it will be too expensive as meat tends to get cheaper the more you buy :)

Does it? Meat is sold by the kg the more you buy the more it costs. 100 people would have about 80-100 grams of meat each on a sandwich...two good quality 5kg joints at about £8 a kg would cost £80...then the cost of cooking it and serving it....and the cost of all those bread rolls (about 120 @ 20p each - £24) sauces, sides, plates etc....probably looking at about £150-£200.

For the venue to buy the meat direct from their suppliers they tend to reduce the price per kg as the quantity goes up.
  • I went to a wedding recently where the bride's mum did all the food (including the cake) and it was lovely. You can still have a sit down but done sort of buffet style - whole poached salmon (from somewhere like Costco works out v reasonable), different salads such as couscous, potato, roast veggies, veggie tart, put out on platters on the tables so everyone can help themselves - or done traditional buffet style.

This is pretty much exactly what I'm planning but traditional buffet style
  • It was so lovely, and there was vv little wastage. She did a sort of Eton mess thingy (frozen in moulds then they just added fruit/coulis on the night) for pudding, as well as the amazing wedding cake.
