My memory stick has suddenly started saying that it needs to be reformatted and I am unable to access the stuff that is on there already. Can someone tell me how I can access the data on there PLEASE? It's needed urgently. Thanks in advance

It sounds like the file system on the memory stick is corrupt which could be down to hardware failing or some issue that has occurred when the USB stick has been plugged in. I'd try some file recovery software and see what it can find, I use Filescavenger ($50) or I've seen recommendations for Recuva which is free and may be worth a look:

As you're probably aware, make sure you don't format it.

Never rely on a flash drive as a back up (or for original data storage). They're liable to fail at any time, and far too easy to lose.
Use them only for data transfer.
Have you not got the original files on a hard drive-you must have copied them from somewhere? No free lunch, and no free laptop
