Microsoft & XBox lack of security!

OH's account was previously hacked and he lost all his points, son's account was hacked and now last night, my account was hacked. All sorts of emails were sent to everyone in my outlook address book as a result. One friend texted me to see if I was ok as the email I'd sent her was 'deep' and included a link for slimming pills.

(Those that know me, know my weight is an issue that gets me down at times so that particular email whilst being totally coincidental, seemed possible.)

I did a search about it last night and see this is quite a widespread thing and people are complaining that Microsoft don't take it seriously enough and deny there is any big issue. I even found a site which described in detail how it's possible to get private info from Microsoft systems. It was shockingly simple.

It was only yesterday late afternoon that I had to go through certain security screens on the xbox in order to log in. I checked this on the internet first and saw that it was a procedure meant to tighten security. The xbox hadn't been used in months before this. Within an hour of doing this, the first spam emails were being sent from my account.

Thankfully there was nothing held in the account, no points banked or linked credit card etc so the worst that could be done was get my email and password, which of course I have now changed and have set up a new email to be used only for xbox but the point is, this shouldn't happen with such apparent regularity to people. There's obviously a weak point in their systems somewhere.

It smacked of the Tesco voucher issue where people's vouchers had been taken and used by others and Tesco denied this was possible for years. It's only recently they have admitted there was an issue and the Police got involved.

I hate the way big companies ignore patterns and continue to state there is no issue. Obviously there is!
