Just taken my 8 yr old to docs as hes not well, so from docs to boots for prescription, & just got stopped by the truant officer asking why hes not at school & why couldnt i go on my own & leave him at home!! der!... i dont think they could diagnose what he has wrong without him being there & wouldnt be right leaving an 8 yr old kid on his own at home!, standing there with two prescriptions in my hand!!! asked me questions what docs what school name etc see the paper heading was also to do with surrey police, anyone else been stopped by a traunt officer???
If they had asked stupid questions like that to me I would have laughed and walked off.0 -
It is definitely a lack of knowledge type thing.
A friend of mine years ago was a single mum. She was amazed how little I spent on shopping each week for 5 of us and that was pre MSE. She used to spend more than me on 3 and 2 were little ones.
I offered to take her shopping one day and look for normal bargains with her. She would buy tiny tins of baked beans for the kids, which obviously cheaper if she had bought pack of 4 large ones and kept in fridge leftover for couple days, she did not realise you could do this.
She also would buy 4 pack of toilet rolll every week, pick up 1 pizza even though maybe on bogof, or even when I checked one of her receipts at later date she had bought 2 pizzas thinking they were bogof but at the time were B1G2F so had been charged an extortion and not realised.
I don't think I managed to change her shopping habits as she just had the set ways of going every weeks for more or less the same things not understanding the concept of if she bought offer this week she would not need to buy it next week.
I think those sort of things should be taught at school instead of if 50 cars were lined up nose to nose and 3 measure xxx how long would 1 be.0 -

Yes my son has been stopped by a bloomin truant officer, on various school teacher training days, his school has them at various odd days, like a Wednesday or Thursday middle of the month, not tagged on to a holiday or weekend to make it easier.
He is 13, btw, and I have dropped him at the skate park in the town while I pop and do some shopping, and he has phoned me to say they have stopped him to ask why not in school, we have to have a letter with us now so he can prove it is a teacher training day, as his school is the only one around here that have them randomly.0 -
