For thoe of you talking about picking apples, how do you store them? I tried wrapping mine in newspaper and putting in a box one year, but they still turned bad.

We still have a bit of bindweed but as long as you keep pulling the shoots it does get less and less. Very easy to get rid of lots of the roots when you cover in plastic as they all come to the surface. ;)

We grow organically so I'm afraid "Roundup" is a swear word in out house. We don't use weed killer or slug pellets. We do use value beer to catch slugs in traps occasionally but hunting them early evening is the best. I leave that job to Mr TS. :o

We've got a bit of a problem in one corner with ground elder

    1250.jpg

Not that big a deal as I can mow it down when it threatens to spread, so it just sits there amongst some bushes and along the hedge/ fence.

One thing I did a few years ago was introduce some mint in the hope that the mint would out-compete it - and it is indeed starting to work pretty well. Mint can be a bit invasive as well but in my experience it's not much of a problem because it's not rampant and if you get it spreading a bit like us, it's actually quite a pleasant plant to have in your garden.

Not wrapped in anything. Not touching each other. Cool dark place.

They keep nicely and some varieties seem to get a bit sweeter.
