We’d like to remind Forumites to please avoid political debate on the Forum.
This is to keep it a safe and useful space for MoneySaving discussions. Threads that are – or become – political in nature may be removed in line with the Forum’s rules. Thank you for your understanding.
PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Please also avoid posting personally identifiable information, including links to your own online property listing which may reveal your address. Thank you for your understanding.

Why all the arguing .... this forum is supposed to support people??

Hold my hands up - guilty of this today. One of those days i guess - must remember to not feed the trolls and just give good advice.
consider your wrists slapped and write 200 lines ......
"I must not be rude to posters on this forum and make sure any advice I give is 120% accurate " :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
while i do agree with the OP and sometimes things are said that are personal ,( I have been a victim myself ) but it is only a forum and at the end of the day the good help and advise from the ones who know what they talking about is well worth the odd "numpty" comment
its easy to be misunderstood on a forum and for people to read a post in a different manner than it was meant
lets not blow this out of proportion, chill ,0 -
The internet is for entertainment purposes only bro.
I suppose after paying Martin Lewis almost ninety million quid to buy the site Money supermarket can't afford mods.0 -

I notice you are still posting 'over there', responding not to the OP, but to other posters - thus perpetuating the thread without assisting the OP (who actually no longer needs advice).
I'm done with that thread now, just wanted to help other posters understand the process, think its been a case of morality over facts to some degree, which gets very messy0 -
Unfortunately Martin's forum, and we posters, are pretty much on our own. The rationale is that the site as a whole has minimal funding due to its refusal to take sponsorship or advertising.
I certainly support the independent stance - that is what makes the site so much better than many others(even the so-called 'comparison sites' are all owned by insurance companies).
Consequently virtually no cash is spent on mods, and mods have minimal involvement with the forum.
The irony is that ensuring a forum is well moderated is not at all expensive and MSE generates more than enough money to cover the costs, however MSE have made the decision to focus on content instead (which is why the main site is a trove of fantastic resources). They could (if they wanted) resolve the moderation problem with no real financial outlay.
The largest forum that I manage (as my full time job) is bigger than this forum (more members, more posts per day) and there are only 2 employees responsible for managing the forum: myself and my "employee" who is very helpful but not entirely necessary. The way that our forum is structured is fairly straight forward and works very well, if a user reports a post it's almost always dealt with within 30 minutes, very rarely does it take more than a few hours.
I sit at the top of the forum, my job is to make decisions regarding forum structure, I also manage the user support and exist as an interface between the forum and the company (we own many forums). Think the CEO of a company.
Each section of the forum (eg: on MSE that would be "Pure Money", "Work & Benefits", "Work & Play") has a volunteer administrator, each volunteer administrator has their own team of volunteer moderators, they're a "team leader". A volunteer administrator is responsible for recruiting new moderators, presenting information to me that is relevant to their section and managing their moderators (eg: making sure they are helpful and not abusive to members).
The volunteer moderators spend on average 30 minutes per day browsing the forum, they look out for bad posts and they deal with reports (any user can click "report" and the post is entered into a list for moderator attention).
At the moment we have 6 active volunteer forum administrators and 86 moderators. Every one of these near 100 staff members volunteers their own time because of how passionate they are about our forum and community, they do not cost us any money (except for the cost of employing me to manage them) and it works very well.
MSE has over 30 employees, if they were interested in doing traditional forum moderation they absolutely could. I'm sure they've made the decision to have it how it is now for a reason and I'm not advocating that they do do something like we do, but they could if they wanted and it'd cost them very little.0 -
i love you guysNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

I agree with your views, although my experience of the house buying & mortgage forums has been brilliant tbf.
It's when i dip into other forums on MSE where the childishness really comes out & you wonder why, what does it really achieve? What's the need for the attitude? I don't go into a thread with an attitude, but if someone takes one for no other reason than i asked a question they think i should know the answer to then i'll soon develop one. I'll not mention those forums as some may get emotional, but really, what ever happened to someone asking a question, someone else answering it & that being the end of it.0 -

Most days I add another poster to my ignore list.0
