Solicitor Lied / Fraud: Advice Please

Basically I lend my OH the deposit for a house, as I was not living in it and we were not married I got a solicitor to draw up a second charge against the property so my money would be protected. I paid him £250 to do this.
However, when OH sold the house a couple of months ago we checked the deeds and it turns out there is no second charge  OH gave me the money back, but what if he hadn't I would have been well and truly sunk
So, I want to complain, and get my money back! What should I do?

Maybe try contacting the solicitor and ask for copy of the land registry record showing the charge - or your money back.0

First you complain to the solicitor, then to his practice's complaints dept and failing that to the Law Society. Gather your own paperwork as you will need proof of what you paid for.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. totally agree with silvercar. explain in full to the solicitors firkm - they should have told you who to complain to in the terms letter they sent to you when you first instructed them. if not, phone and ask who you should complain to. See how that goes - it is a potential negligence claim. However it doesn't sound as though you have suffered any loss apart from the solicitors costs so I'm not sure you will get anything back other than that. I would very much hope it could be resolved through the firm but if not, speak to the law society. Good luck![strike]June [/strike][strike]July [/strike][strike]Aug[/strike] Nov 07 -
