How on earth can the self proclaimed World's largest building society not be able to organise a weekly money transfer?

    They can.

    The options are:
Week, Fortnight, 28 days, Month, Quarter, Half a year, Year.

I can post a screen shot if you like.

Yes, the full statements are a day behind, but you also have the instant statements which show the latest transactions, not that I care as I only check it once a week anyway.

I don't have a problem with their faster payments service either, I transfer a payment to company X and it just goes. Whats problems did you have?

I make the most of each bank, so for example, it would be daft for me to save in a 1% savings account when I can put the money in a 5% current account.

This is reminiscent of the faster payments nightmare with the Nationwide.

What "nightmare"? Rushing to implement before it was ready and making a hash of it would have been a nightmare. It was later than some others implementing, and initially only allowed very small transfers, so disappointing perhaps but hardly a nightmare.

Some early contactless cards have proved to be insecure and have had to be reissued. If Nationwide tends to err on the side of caution by not being a trailblazer that's fine with me.

    .

They must have updated their systems quite recently because there didn't used to be an option to pay more frequently than monthly. Their inability to pay weekly was one of the reasons I moved all my payments to a different bank.

Doesn't bother me either as I won't use contactless anyway. Certainly not on a debit card.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

As mentioned I left them five years ago. Back then they definitely did not offer weekly standing orders.

When I was with the Nationwide I had no problems with their faster payments service. The simple reason being that they did not offer faster payments. Many readers on this forum were complaining about the numerous missed dates for the faster payments implementation.

You will no doubt be aware that this was the case with most banks, and not just Nationwide.

Indeed, some (looking at Natwest here) still only allow £20k per day (working days only) to be paid by FP. Nationwide's implementation of it is significantly better than that.

    Barclays are still only £10K

Sounds to me that your "nightmare" was simply the fact that you were impatient. They may take a while to implement things, but when they do, they seem to do it right rather than quick and half-working.

Likewise, Nationwide limit Faster Payments to 10K per transaction, but you can make as many transactions upto 10K as you like per day. Compare this to one of the 'quick' implementors such as Barclays, where the limit was and still is 10K per DAY. If I had savings there, that would be a nightmare for me (I shouldn't have to pay a CHAPS fee to move my savings around)

If you have a platinum account with Barclays they waive the CHAPS fee which is jolly handy
