Turning around stairs

Can anyone give me a rough estimate of how expensive and complicated it would be to turn around a staircase. The staircase is the type where you go up them half way, turn 180 on a half landing, and go up the rest of the way ... not sure what this is called. The house is a 1960s detached.

What do you mean by "turn around"? It will surely depend on exactly what you mean and the construction of the wall between the two flights, if that needs, if that needs removing.Solar install June 2022, Bath

He means something like this:

and wants to reverse the installation.

Very rough estimate basic softwood staircase with half landing £1500 -£2000 incl. fitting.
Lots of variables that could push price up or down but I would suggest above as a "ball park" figure.
There are some good carpenters/joiners who contribute on here so hopefully one of them will be along with a more accurate figure and probably make me look silly.0 -
Sorry should have been clearer. Want to do what keystone said ... currently go up on right and want to turn it round so go up on left. Is it possible to do it without buying a new staircase, just reusing the current one, keeping the half landing where it is and moving the steps sideways.
thanks0 -
Anything is possible. I think you need to get some local chippies/joiners in to advise and give you a price based on what you have now................want to turn it round so go up on left. Is it possible to do it ......... reusing the current one, keeping the half landing where it is and moving the steps sideways.

In theory you should just need to remove the lower and upper stairs, but it probably wont be that simple.
Its probably easier to just fit a new staircase..0 -
the ballisters are drilled through the treads so you'll end up with spare holes when you reverse them
Having said that, the lights will be miles away so you probably wouldn't see them0 -
That pic is one I found on t'interwebz purely to illustrate the sort of configuration OP was talking about.. There is no reason to think that OP has similar lights in his installation really. Of course I could be wrong!Having said that, the lights will be miles away so you probably wouldn't see them

We changed a straight flight to a dog leg using the same staircase, OH is very handy so he did the job himself so I can't say how much it would cost ...0

So from OPs perspective - Post #6 - rinse and repeat.
