Wirelessly connect laptop to TV

I know it is possible to connect a laptop to a TV via either a HDMI or VGA lead depending on the ports on your laptop. I've recently been looking at what options are available for connecting the two wirelessly.
I was wondering if anyone knows the most cost effective way of connecting the two. The only simple option I have seen is a USB to HDMI extender which costs about £135 which seems rather expensive.
It is annoying to have a lead stretched from my laptop across the room to the tv when I want to display content on it such as tv via the internet when there is interference on regular tv.

Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

I've been wondering if something like:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Android-Midnight-XBMC-Smart-Streaming/dp/B00CI7O8G0/ref=sr_1_24?s=receiver-speakers&ie=UTF8&qid=1379759916&sr=1-24
will do the job but I'm not techie enough to know if it would replace the laptop and the wired connection to the Smart TV.
Hopefully someone will give the answer. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -

Hi
the simplest way i find is to connect your laptop to the tv and get yourself a wireless mouse, you can then sit on the sofa and control the laptop with the mouse
just like a remote, they come with a small sender that you plug into one of the usb ports, they have a range of about 10/15 mtrs, wireless mouses are plug n play and quite cheap,i paid less than £10 for mine and works a treat, or you can get a keyboard n mouse and go the hole hog, works with any laptop. hope this helps.0 -
Windows computers and Apple Macs can play any streaming service - iPlayer, ITV, C4, etc. and also can play it all through the VGA connector to a modern TV. HDMI might be blocked by licensing restrictions. But there is no Android or IOS device that can play all the above services through a TV. So I can understand why seamless wireless playback from a laptop is a kind of 'holy grail' and wonder what the solution is.
Connecting a laptop to TV with cables is a pain!0 -
Extract from Wiki
Miracast is a peer-to-peer wireless screencast standard formed via Wi-Fi Direct connections in a manner similar to Bluetooth. It enables wireless or wired delivery of compressed standard or high-definition video to or from desktops, tablets, mobile phones, and other devices.
Both the sending and receiving devices must be Miracast certified for the technology to work.
However, to stream music and movies to a non-certified device there will be Miracast adapters available that plug into HDMI or USB ports.

I'm talking about being able to have one thing on the tv screen and still use the laptop screen for other things. But thanks for the idea of the wireless mouse. I suspect a wireless keyboard would also help here.mickamike404 wrote: »Hi
