The Official Receiver reviews each persons circumstances on their own merits.
If this is the most reasonable and economic way for you to travel to your place of work, then they will almost certainly allow it. They need you to be able to continue to earn an income, and should not penalise you for continuing to do so.
These online calculators have their place, but they fall down when someone's circumstances fall outside the norm. You need to talk it through with a real advisor tomorrow.
CCCS are very good on the phone.

250 miles a day? Bloody hell. Where are you commuting from/to?
I do 500 miles a day but I'm a lorry driver.
250 miles a week, surely? Averaging 40MPG you should be able to do a months commuting for under £120 of petrol.0 -

If your job entails driving 250 miles a day then you won't have any problems including that in you Income & Expenditure A/C, and don't forget to include the additional costs of maintaining a high mileage vehicle in a road worthy condition.

My work is based just outside of London and I travel from Dorset, the M25 is my 2nd best friend.
I cannot afford to rent or even able to get rented accommodation near my work, not now anyway, of course I stay with friends from time to time, but I currently live with parents, and travel to work in my car. I cannot work remotely from my pc for my employer just yet as I am not qualified enough but at some stage will be able to... it would take me 3 hours on the train and a 20 min bus ride if I took public transport! Plus it would cost a hell of alot more.
Fuel is the cheapest option aside public transport or London rent prices.
I spend at least 4 hours + in my car a day.... I am not the only person on this planet to make such a commute, so it isn't that ridiculously foreign!!
And no... I cannot get paid as well as I currently am more locally...

I sympathise. Every time I got into my car I was there for two hours. I once worked out how much time a year I spent driving and it scared the crap out of me. Driving time used to be thinking time until some !!!!!! invented the mobile phoneBR 18 Oct 2006 Discharged 16 April 2007 :T0

Surely you can find a job that's within £200 a week of what you're getting now because that's what it's costing you.
i.e:
Job in London. £650 gross or £33800 p.a = £500 a week take home. You pay £155 in fuel which leaves you with £345 in your hand after travel to work expenses.
Job locally = £345 take home which is £430 a week gross or £22360 p.a. No travel costs.
Even though local job is £11k less than London job, you're no worse off and are 4hours better off.
Sorry but you must be barking mad.
That 4hrs a day spent commuting is 20 hours a week. You could get both a full time and part time job locally, earn the same money and have no less time at home.0
