ford fusion (2005) brake bulb replacement

I have (foolishly) agreed to help a friend fit a new brake bulb today. On all the cars I have ever owned it has been a 30 second job. Open boot, open flap, pull out light cluster, replace bulb and job done.

The car in question is a ford fusion (2005) and I believe this is no straight forward job.

Has anyone changed one before - any advice. I have a reputation in the office for knowing my onions so this could wreck my credibility!

  • Did you get this done? It's dead simple, remove wing Knut off retaining screw from inside boot, unscrew two screws around light fitting, pop unit out carefully, in plugging wiring harness. Clip off the six retaining clips to get the holder out of glass cover and replace bulb.

Make sure it's a double filament bulb or you will get a short.

    Reverse fit.

To be serious - make sure you put the new lamp in the right way up (it will go either way) otherwise you will have a very bright rear light and a dim brake light !

Erm, we went to the pub for 6 hours instead. I will have another go soon. Thanks for your explanation seems very straight forward I have told him to get some torx screwdrivers.

LoL obviously my phone was in a German mood!

Odd, mine are torx, just bog standard Phillips.

    Good luck!

The pins on dual filament 5W/12W 380 bulbs are at slightly different heights to ensure that they are fitted the right way around.

On my 2004 Fiesta, the two screws are Torx, T25.

At least one of the plastic "wingnuts" inside the boot will be locked solid. However, they have a slot in the end, and a 2p coin works well.

Despite what it says in the Haynes manual, you don't have to undo the electrical multi-pin connector to remove the light cluster.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

On the fusion there's not enough cable to allow you to not remove the electrics, and no torx or similar near wingnut.

Hey, know what you mean about the "wingnuts" inside the Fiesta boot, darn things nearly broke my wrists!

Speaking of Fiesta's (sorry for thread hijacking), Steve059 - can you take at look at my Fiesta problem please over here:

Okay- the Fusion went back to Halfords where for £3.49 they put the bulb in- took them 15 mins to get this down.

My car credibility has been shot to pieces in the office.
