in Credit cards
I have an M&S credit card, which enables me to buy travellers cheques at a better than their standard rate. It is treated as a purchase, so there is no cash advance fees or interest, provided I pay my card off in full, as I do each month, with purchases.
However, the travellers cheques (which will be in US dollars), are not for me, but are for my mate and I am not going on the holiday/
Does anyone know, if I can do this?
I'm thinking, that the cheques may be issued in my name and when changing them, they will want to see indentity matching the name on the cheques. Or that M&S won't issue the cheques against my card and put them in my mates name (if a name is attached to them).
Or is their no name/details, attached to the travellers cheques, so it doesn't matter, if I give them to someone else?
I've posted in the travel section as well, just to cover all bases.
Thanks

Didn't M&S Travel Money stop issuing travellers cheques in May this year?0

I was hoping you would reply YB.
Ok, I wasn't aware of that, when you browse the travel money section, it shows currency rates, but didn't specify cash/travellers cheques.
I did wonder why when querying it with the online assistant, it didn't bring up any specfic details, other than the link to the page for travel money.0 -
Tesco used to do a similar deal with their credit card. Haven't looked into it recently though. If you have a Tesco card maybe that would be an option?
But I can't answer as to whether you could buy them for someone else, as I only ever used this loophole for stoozing Sterling TCs.0 -
Your mate might find it more difficult spending the T/C than he would if he had a pre paid card or cash.0

I believe TC can be cashed by anyone. Just needs to be your friend's signature of the cheque.0
