hi
I am looking for anyone who can help me find a guest house, b & b or a decent hotel in London.
We are going
30th December 2013
3 nights
Party of 2 adults and 1 child
Cheapest is £300 I can find.
Looking for something a little cheaper
We have got lots planned
Any help would be appreciated

You will pay a lot for NYE in London and may struggle to find somewhere at a reasonable rate a few months before but if you look at the budget hotels such as Travelodge and Premier Inn you may get the other days cheaper.0

Check out Air B & B https://www.airbnb.co.uk/0

Vauxhall has a new Travelodge and is beside the tube station. £52 for 30/12 and £59 for the 1st jan, but NYE bumps it up as it is £174 for that night. If you do book add all rooms one at a time to your basket and do one checkout( if up block book it charges the most expensive rate for all nights). It would be a handy location as it is only a short journey on the 87 bus to Westminster if you were planning to view the New years day parade (or short tube journey).
If you don't mind not being in a more central location you could look at hotels such as Cricklewood and Park Royal on the outskirts. For your dates Cricklewood which is a newer hotel has family rooms for £27 on 30/12, £64 for 31st and £33 for 1st Jan. There is a bus that goes from in front of the hotel to Marble Arch and a train staion 5 mins walk away that goes into St Pancras. The tube station (Kilburn) is a 10 minute walk away and it is a 15 minute direct journey on the tube to Westminster from there. Wembley has cheap rates but is in an area with a high crime rate, so would avoid that. ParK Royal is an older TL so may be a bit more run down, but is 5 mins walk via an underpass to the tube station. The tubes usually run all night on NYE so getting back to a hotel near a tube station late after say watchign the fireworks should not be a problem.0 -
Kings Cross travelodge has a non-amendable rate of 196 for the 3 nights.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

I had never heard of the booking site either but as you say it seems to be private individuals letting rooms in houses they live in or own. It seems it can be a bit hit and miss as to whether it is a good or bad experience according to Tripadvisor comments. I did note that one of the cheaper rooms on the link given for your dates was in a local authority estate that has a poor reputation and one that I would not consider a good area to be out in after dark, yet it has great reviews.

I would say with Air N&B only go with someone who has lots of good reviews - hopefully that goes without saying!0
