Being chased for non-existent debt

I'm hoping for some advice.

I am being chased by a debt collection agency (EOS Solutions) for a debt that I have genuinely have no knowledge of.

They claim I owe nearly £400 in respect of a credit account with Grattan (I assume this is the catalogue company) - I haven't ever had a Grattan account. I did have another catalogue a/c but it definitely wasn't Grattan.

I settled all of my debts off when I sold my house in 2010. I haven't used credit since.

I sent a CCA letter to EOS who responded (after a month) with a letter claiming a "reconstituted credit agreement" was enclosed. However there was nothing in the envelope.

I wrote back pointing out that there was nothing in the envelope and that they'd failed to supply any proof of the debt.

They've written again saying they've supplied the information and plan to take recovery action although they have explicitly ruled out legal action.

Can members suggest any next steps.

If EOS aren't going to recover attempt recovery through the court what can they do?

I'm really concerned. If I had proof the debt was genuine I'd just pay it but I'm obviously reluctant to pay a debt I'm pretty sure doesn't exist!

Is this a scam? EOS seem to be a real company and genuine (as far as any DCA can be)!

Something has gone badly wrong.
