I completely agree with the low income families - I think it should be a tapered system. Some pwc are not on low incomes. I think there should be a threshold that if your personal income plus maintenance is over a certain amount then tax credits should be tapered. I just find it a bit confusing that if you had 2 pwc on equal salaries they have the same entitlement to the same level of tax credits yet one could be getting £400 from the nrp and the other nothing. I think it should be a bit more of a level playing field.

And I agree maintenance is for the welfare of the children and that's why I don't dispute it should be paid - my argument is not with that, purely the amount the g'ment spend on tax credits which I think would proove even more beneficial if more could go to those who have no other assistance with welfare costs.

I accept though that in reality it would prove difficult to get a system that could make it work - maybe that's what needs to happen, more work on a clearer, accessible system. Even the tax credit calculator is hard work to get through! Thumbs up on the new CSA calculator that is clear and easy to input. I'm surprise at how quietly the changes to maintenance (net to gross salary, removal of the 65k asset cap, fines to parents who pay through the CSA etc) have been bought in.

Application fees, enforcement charging and collection charging aren't being brought in until next year.
