  • I only use my cards for s75 then pay off...I'm more annoyed I may have two from b/c than anything. Purse space is limited!

It'll be worth it for the American Express foursquare offers.

The Visa card is like a back up card if you will, for when Amex is not accepted.

Ahhh, I see. Thanks for explaining x

Do they work with Amex branded cards not actually issued by Amex itself?

To be fair you wouldn't be under an obligation to carry both. I hate having a fat wallet so I now only carry one credit card and my debit card. If bc did change the high 5 to an Amex/visa I suspect I'd just not carry the visa and do a trial run without it for a month or so. If I found I had to use my debit card constantly and missed out on loads of cashback, I'd rethink, but going by what reclusive has said that may not be necessary.

One tip I would give though is to not ask if places take American Express as usually staff are clueless and say no when they actually do. If they don't take it, the machine will just say something like Card not accepted or Card application error. This has improved though, most merchants will now know they accept it, mainly because of increased popularity.

I made that mistake with a local restaurant who always said no when I asked but when I forgot about it and tried to use it, it worked!

I was just looking, I have a backup mastercard for when Amex is not taken and this month I had 41 transactions on Amex and 2 on my MasterCard and one of them was only because they just got a new card terminal and they hadn't called Amex to activate it yet on the Amex network yet.
  • Amex card- is that a charge or credit one?

'Charge' ones have to be paid IN FULL, each month..
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)

Other than the fact the card works on the Amex network, it has nothing to do with American Express (Just like any other card working on MC or Visa). It's still a credit card and still works as one account and the same as before.

Would be nice to have the Amex card for the Foursquare offers.

So, according to the t&c's they have to give you 30days notice if they change the rates.

Well if that is the case, i'll just carry the amex & my aqua card :)
