Netbook mouse touchpad not working.

My nephew's netbook touchpad has stopped working. We've been told it's a hardware problem that can't be fixed. Is this really the case? The netbook is only 8 months old.

has it been switched off
who told you, of course it can be fixed, under warranty, if it is really faulty.!!

Doesn't cure the fault but will the netbook work with a usb wired/wireless mouse? I use one all the time on my netbook cos I find the touchpad awkward for my big fingers.
Hope this helps0 -
His parents took it back to where they bought it to be fixed, but they've lost the warranty and there's no record of them having it. I think was from Sainsburys and it was them who told them if can't be fixed. The netbook does come on but the touchpad is dead. Personally I can't see why it can't be fixed.0

My nephew tells me there's no place to attach a mouse. I thought all netbooks have this option.0 -
could be disabled in the bios, could be disable with a switch or key combination, could be a software problem
a receipt or proof of purchase is enough for a warranty claim, if its none of the above
mouse - usb slot!!

Cheers! I will be seeing my nephew tomorrow so will have a look at the netbook then. Will report back.
BTW, receipt is missing too.
How do you enable with a key combination?0 -
Brand and full model number of Netbook is needed.0

depends on the model, some have a little button above the pad, a light usually comes on to show it's disabled, some have a Fn + F? combination, some have a piece of software to turn on/off.!!
