Parking Eye Removed From Local B&Q

Well I'm sat in my car in a local B&Q and magically Parking Eye have gone, no sign of them at all and their paraphernalia has disappeared.
And by the looks of things there is no mass chaos, people are just going about their business as normal, and they seem to be self managing the car park.
Now next door has CP Plus in with the usual carp ongoing there, with their signs all facing the wrong way so people can't really tell its a pay and display Morrisons. And to top it all there is about 10 signs for about 200 spaces.

I wonder the reason that B&Q have got rid of PE is because they might have had a "no return within x hours" policy? You can easily fall foul of this in a place like B&Q, when you get home and realise that you haven't bought enough of something or it's the wrong colour, or it's the wrong product. I know I've done that. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

The particular T&Cs for each car park will be created in consultation with the car park owner. PE don't just unilaterally impose their own T&Cs regardless. It's more likely that the hassle of having PE harass their customers has outweighed any possible benefits in terms of car park management offered by PE (none).trisontana wrote: »I wonder the reason that B&Q have got rid of PE is because they might have had a "no return within x hours" policy? Might be down to someone targeting the planning application permission and rateable value application of p arking e ye car operated car parks.
After all the nasty PPC get it first.
Everyone should be doing this, stamp them out.Be happy...;)0 -
You'd think so, wouldn't you. But we have seen instances of PPCs changing the conditions on a car park. Who knows if it's with or without the knowledge of the owner (I wouldn't put it past them not to bother consulting with the party whose contract they are working under), but the change sometimes falls foul of the planning permission that allowed the car park in the first place.PE don't just unilaterally impose their own T&Cs regardless.0 -
Especially when the true owner of the land might not even know that there is a PPC operating there. You can have several degrees of separation between the store and the landowner, with managing agents and such like sitting in between. For instance somebody has just found out that a retail park in in Chelmsford infested by PE is actually owned by the BA Pension Fund. I doubt that they have even heard of Parking Eye,What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

I think the ultimate landowner argument is a bit of a red herring. The likes of British Land, Duke of Westminster, Trinity College Cambridge and the like own massive amounts of land all over the place, and would never be involved in anything as petty as a PPC. The effective top-of-the-tree (to all intents and purposes) would be the company who leases the land from the freeholder. The lease would confer just about all rights to the leasee. It would be that leasee who could (potentially) sue for trespass/loss etc. That may well be a supermarket, DIY store, retail park "owner".trisontana wrote: »Especially when the true owner of the land might not even know that there is a PPC operating there.
