Understanding Experian terminology

I set up a business last year, and was recently rejected for a merchant account to accept online payments. My wife and I are joint owners of the company (50/50).
We had some money troubles about eight years ago, paid a debt management company (I know, I know!) for six years, and then when they had failed to reduce our debt significantly, sold our house and settled everything, so the last settlement was over two years ago.
I decided to check our credit records with Experian - my wife has a 'good' rating, with an old default due to expire soon (25 Feb 2014) and 906 'points'.
My account has me down as 'fair' with 810 points. I've got one account labelled as 'default', but that expires in January, and another labelled as 'six payments late' but settled.
I have a credit-builder credit card, and have been debt free for two years now, with lots of utilities (gas, electricity, mobile phones) showing up as being managed correctly.
What more can I do to improve my credit score, or is it just a waiting game?

The scores are not really worth focusing on, as they are not representative of your ability to get credit, because your credit file dta is only part of what makes any potential lenders decision.
Sounds like it is just a waiting game for you.
The default is still likely to be affecting your chance of getting credit with some lenders.
How long ago was the 6 payments late account settled?
In regard to the recent issue - do you know for certain that the merchant account provider did personal credit checks on you both as individuals?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Limited company? Then check that report, not yourselves individually.0
