Changing default for opening DOC files

I saw this query elsewhere but it wasn't answered.

I'd be interested if anyone could help because I have a similar problem.

I have some DOC files transfered to my new PC which runs on W8 from an old PC which runs on Windows XP.
When I try to open these DOC files the new PC tries to open them, by default. with Firefox and I have to go through clicking this and that to change the means of opening them to Openoffice.
How can I make Openoffice the default for opening DOC files on my W8 PC?

Right click on the file, Open with, Choose program, Select program, Tick Always use this program, OK

Thanks but the Always use this programme box isn't highlighted, it's the grey colour which means it can't be ticked.
