Economy 7 - do I trust supplier, meter clock, or meter tariff indicator?

Hi all,

I am new to Economy 7 and a little confused. :)

My supplier told me the off peak tariff is between 00.30 and 07.30 am in my area. I checked this morning, and the meter changed from tariff 1 to tariff 2 (may have been the other way round, can't remember, but it was from lower to higher tariff) at 08.00 am, not 07.30am. And the meter clock is about an hour and ten minutes slow...

Instinct tells me that when the meter flips from tariff 1 to tariff 2 that is what I should rely on. (Which, given it changed at 08.00am means off-peak is 01.00 to 08.00am, not 00.30 to 07.30 as I was told this morning by the energy supplier...) Is this the best idea?

Finally, other than the change between Summertime and Winter, do the actual peak times change (other than by a few minutes) very often? (I.e. will they change it an hour or so one way or the other without informing me?

Thanks for the help, all the best

Ron

Welcome to the forum - your instinct is correct!

The meter tariff indicator is the sole indicator if you are on off-peak or daytime rates. You will see the readings increase on the appropriate meter.

With an analogue clock the timings for off-peak alter by one hour between GMT and BST. i.e. in my area(midlands) it is 00:30 to 07:30 in winter and 01:30 to 08:30 in summer.

However these clocks can be inaccurate. Mine is about 20 minutes slow, so the 'change over' is delayed by 20 minutes. i.e. 00:50 to 07:50 in winter and 01:50 to 08:50 in summer.
