Are you happy to manage on-line?
Where is your current account?
Do they have an internet savings account? You can usually transfer there on the same day so you don't need to keep much in the current account.
For less instant money (4-5 days) Icesave or Sainsburys (not tried that but good rate at the moment it seems) again view and transfer via the internet.0 -
Thank you for your reply, i am with nationwide, i would prefer to be able to just go in a bank/building sociaty to just put money in instead of do it on the internet as that would be much easia for me, thankyou

if u with nationwide ( flexi account/current account) they have a e-saver which sits along side the current account ( pays 5.55% gross) basically all transactions paying in/withdrawals etc take place via nationwides current account, any spare money u not in actual need for u can move across to the e-saver, then if u ever need the money u merely move it back to the current account, current account operates as now so u can use branch etc the only thing u have to do online is the current account-esaver movements and visa versa

other alternative is sainsburys 6% instant access account
or if u wasnt a total building society branch account ( skipton and chelsea are about best two ( on 500.00+) u would need to say which building societies u have close to where u live0 -
How about accounts held at the post office?
They have their own instant saver. Won't be the best interest rate in the world but seems to meet your other requirements:
Post Office Instant Saver
You can also run accounts from banks that are linked to the post office. Say Barclays and Alliance & Leicester spring to mind. A&L have this account, though you would need to check with them you could deposit money at the post office:
A&L Easysaver
Barclays have this account:
Barclays Savings account
The interest rate won't be great, and you would need to check if you can deposit money at the PO.
HTH.
