Britain's biggest energy giant British Gas is planning to hit millions of customers with price hikes of £100 or up to 10 per cent, it was claimed today.

On the eve of the Labour Party Conference, reports this morning said the announcement would come next month - when the political party season is over.

A rival energy giant had a board meeting this week where price hikes were on the agenda. A jump of 10 per cent would push British Gas bills up to a record of £1,474.

British Gas told the Evening Standard today that it "never comments on future pricing movements". But experts have been predicting price hikes for weeks.

We all know price rises are looming. But isn't it funny how the switching websites get conveniently name dropped into the article. And it would appear that npower are the bet to increase prices first, but BG have been used for the headline even though there is little to no evidence that they will act first?
